Courage.
We think we know what it looks like, but it often shows up in the most unexpected places.
Roz Savage is one of those.
London-based Roz is the only woman in the world to row the Big Three oceans – the Atlantic, the Pacific and the Indian Ocean – alone in a 23-ft rowboat. She’s spent over 520 days of her life – solo – in the middle of virtually unending tracts of water, and rowed 15,000 miles, one stroke at a time.
And she did this not as a competitive athlete or challenger to a title – though she now holds four Guinness World Records – but because on the tube in London one morning as she made her way to her management consultant job, she mentally wrote her obituary, and it didn’t sound like the woman she wanted to be.
So she wrote another, the obituary she’d like to read about herself – and she went out to become that woman.
Roz demonstrates the capacity for the exceptional in the seemingly most ordinary, and it was an uplifting start to our last evening of the year.
Watch this jaw-dropping conversation above.

Algebra, the Arts & Ideas Club brings together a fellowship of people who believe great cities are built not just on infrastructure but a life of the mind; who understand robust and liberal societies need the oxygen of great conversation and nuanced thinking.
At a time when we are increasingly surrounded by rage and noise, Algebra is a live and continuous space for people to come together for a genuine exchange of ideas and exposure to issues; where new seeds could be sparked, fresh perspectives formed, and intelligent connections made.
Algebra – the Arts and Ideas Club is designed to host almost 35 engagements over the year with topline thinkers and practitioners from almost every discipline that impacts human affairs: politics, economy, environment, spirituality, cinema, medicine, science, technology, music, media, literature, the arts, sports, people’s movements, et al.
