He’s the lone ranger who has spent almost four decades trying to save us from ourselves.

And at Algebra, he took to the stage to explain why fighting for the environment is not an act of morality but of our survival.

If there is anyone on the Indian environmental landscape who knows what he’s talking about, it is Bittu.

He writes and walks the forests. He talks to poachers and forest rangers. He climbs mountains, metaphorically and physically. He makes documentaries and films, publishes Sanctuary magazine, has enlisted one million children for Save the Tiger, has been involved with Project Tiger since its inception and will not stop, he says, till his dying day. He is a braveheart, a contemporary hero, the warrior we need but do not deserve, and he’d much rather we join the fight rather than talk-up his life.

To help make a start, he also offered a free annual subscription to Sanctuary magazine to any Algebra member who writes in expressing interest, so we can understand the complex nature of the environmental challenge better. If you’re a member and would like to take Bittu up on his generous offer, drop us a line on team@algebratheclub.com and we’ll let him know.

  • About Us

Algebra, the Arts & Ideas Club brings together a fellowship of people who believe great cities are built not just on infrastructure but a life of the mind; who understand robust and liberal societies need the oxygen of great conversation and nuanced thinking.

At a time when we are increasingly surrounded by rage and noise, Algebra is a live and continuous space for people to come together for a genuine exchange of ideas and exposure to issues; where new seeds could be sparked, fresh perspectives formed, and intelligent connections made.

Algebra – the Arts and Ideas Club is designed to host almost 35 engagements over the year with topline thinkers and practitioners from almost every discipline that impacts human affairs: politics, economy, environment, spirituality, cinema, medicine, science, technology, music, media, literature, the arts, sports, people’s movements, et al.
