He’s got music in his soul and a maverick approach to life.
That’s been evident in the trajectory of his career. On the one hand, Rabbi Shergill has known fame like few others – a mad spike from nowhereland into superstardom when his cult hit Bulla Ki Jaana hit the headlines.
On the other, though, Rabbi refused to play by anyone else’s rules, making the music and following the passions closest to his heart. And in a revealing, almost melancholic conversation Shergill talked protest, music and identity fresh off the street from #NotInMyName where he performed the music closest to his heart.
Rabbi was articulate and passionate, but it was when he took to song that he was his most compelling. From the iconic Bullah Ki Jaana to Jugni to the poetic Tere Bin – which, while it reads as a romantic love song, was revealed to be an ode to his father soon after his passing – Rabbi‘s mystical voice was the heady note we needed to end the night on a spectacular high.

Algebra, the Arts & Ideas Club brings together a fellowship of people who believe great cities are built not just on infrastructure but a life of the mind; who understand robust and liberal societies need the oxygen of great conversation and nuanced thinking.
At a time when we are increasingly surrounded by rage and noise, Algebra is a live and continuous space for people to come together for a genuine exchange of ideas and exposure to issues; where new seeds could be sparked, fresh perspectives formed, and intelligent connections made.
Algebra – the Arts and Ideas Club is designed to host almost 35 engagements over the year with topline thinkers and practitioners from almost every discipline that impacts human affairs: politics, economy, environment, spirituality, cinema, medicine, science, technology, music, media, literature, the arts, sports, people’s movements, et al.
